RPC is a powerhouse in the insurance market, having supported the sector throughout the world for over 60 years.
Our service goes beyond simply advising on the law. The depth and breadth of our expertise across all legal disciplines brings with it an innate understanding of the commercial context in which insurance companies operate, meaning we can help you navigate complex business issues, as well as purely legal ones.
We offer the complete legal package covering claims, coverage and recoveries across all non-marine markets, as well as providing corporate and commercial advice to insurers, brokers, financiers and other intermediaries across the globe. Over a third of our claims practice involves working on international claims, using our network of specialist correspondent lawyers and through our offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Around two thirds of our 77 partners and 260 associates work for organisations in the insurance sector. Many are recognised by the top UK and international legal directories as leaders in the insurance and reinsurance fields, and we have won a number of prestigious industry awards for our service in this sector.
We equip our lawyers with the necessary legal and business skills so that we're there when you need us most, whether in developing new products, advising on issues affecting your business or acting on your behalf in disputes. We're proud of our reputation for:
- Providing high quality secondees to our clients
- A no-nonsense and hands on approach
- Innovative and award winning products and services
We've been widely recognised for our leading role in the insurance sector, both in terms of the legal advice we give and the service we provide. In 2012 alone we won:
- Service Provider of the Year at the British Insurance Awards
- Insurance Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards
- Professional Adviser of the Year at the London Market Awards
"A very impressive insurance firm with a broad range of work" - Chambers UK 2016
Reflecting the insurance industry's own structure (rather than a law firm's interpretation of it) we developed our 'clients and markets' approach for both Claims and Corporate Insurance. We put ourselves into your shoes and think about the markets you service (and therefore the markets we serve).
Different lawyers here have responsibility for each of the clients and each of the markets. They then share business information across the whole group. This ensures accurate, relevant and targeted information is constantly flowing around the business, giving you a more streamlined, joined up and efficient service.
Developing close long-term relationships with our clients is integral to how we operate. We like to invest in building and maintaining those relationships by providing helplines, training in workshops and seminars, know-how and information services and secondees - all tailored to your needs and your business.
We field compact, partner-led teams so that you get the best advice delivered in the most efficient way.
We know that you want a team large enough to get the service you need at all times, but small enough so that you can build strong relationships with individual people. We have continued to ensure we recruit and develop the highest quality lawyers so that we can deliver the best service and advice without incurring unnecessary cost.
- "They have a broad range of expertise and quality personnel from associate through to partner, and they are accessible and responsive" - Chambers UK 2013
Many firms deliver service in the way that they want, thinking they know best. We believe the opposite, making sure we ask what you want, listening to what you tell us and then delivering to your expectations.
- "One of the ways in which I think they particularly excel is tailoring their service to our cultural values" - Chambers UK 2013
We have invested significantly to extend our offering and service to clients.
For example, we introduced a new Business Information Programme to streamline data collection and analysis. This includes an advanced online management information dashboard which allows partners to assess real time performance data and capacity, helping to drive efficiency by allocating resources smartly.
And our award-winning intranet, Edge – which employs social media and content aggregation tools such as wikis and blogs – brings about a more efficient way of working through increased transparency and collaboration, and consolidating the capability of our people by breaking down knowledge and technology silos.
The result of this is that we're able to offer better value than ever without compromising on the standards of advice and service we know you expect.
We like to be measured by our clients in everything that we do and invite regular feedback on our performance. We'll work with you to pull out the management information that you want in the formats that work best for you - not simply the ones that we prefer. We're constantly looking for fresh new ways of delivering information that meets our clients' requirements and, as your business needs change, we'll adapt with you to make sure our service remains tailored to your specific requirements.
We begin with a lot of upfront planning, putting the right people in place to coordinate the data and then backing them up with a state of the art database system to make sure we're maximising efficiences from the very start. We'll continue to work hard to find innovative ways of delivering the information you need, when and in the way you need it, to help enhance your competitiveness in today's challenging economy.
The evolution in the relationships between external lawyers and insurers continues at a fast past. The Legal Week Benchmarker Insurance Report, in partnership with RPC, drills down into what the issues are and how the two sides work together.
