RPC advises Lloyd’s insurance broker on sale of MGA subsidiary to French broker

  • Date:
    02 May 2012

Leading City law firm RPC (Reynolds Porter Chamberlain LLP) has advised Lloyd’s insurance broker, LONMAR Global Risks Limited, on the sale of its Managing General Agent subsidiary company, MediCare International Limited, to French broking group APRIL.

LONMAR Global Risks is a leading independent Lloyd's broker located at the heart of the London insurance market. MediCare, which has operated within LONMAR and its predecessors since 1993, provides healthcare cover to expatriates and their families from 86 nationalities in 121 countries.

APRIL is one of the largest independent insurance broking groups in France, with a turnover of €757m (2011) and 3,830 staff.  APRIL has acquired MediCare through its UK subsidiary, APRIL Medibroker Limited, which is an insurance broker marketing international private medical insurance predominately through the internet.

RPC Consultant Peter Hill, who led RPC’s team on the deal, comments: “This is a very good example of our Corporate Insurance Group at work.  RPC has a very strong tradition of working with clients in the insurance sector and we’re increasingly asked by insurance clients to advise them on corporate matters, which is a real strength for the firm.”

For RPC, Peter Hill was assisted by Associate Daniel Rose and, on tax matters, by Charles Suchett-Kaye.
