What you’ll be doing

You will not be chained to the photocopier; trainees are a valuable resource, one that we don’t want to waste on menial tasks. Neither will you be left to struggle with a mountain of complex, case-critical work. The level of responsibility you are given will depend on your confidence and your ability to cope with it.

From day one, all our trainees are part of a strong support structure. Each has a supervising partner to review progress and allocate work accordingly, as well as a mentor and a dedicated trainee development team.

During the two-year training contract you will spend six months in each of four practice areas. You will be involved in commercial and litigation work as well as more specialist areas such as intellectual property, defamation, employment and construction. You will also take part in a formal training programme, which runs throughout the contract to support the practical experience you gain.

Forging personal relationships with clients and developing a close understanding of their markets is invaluable. To help you get started, there are opportunities to be seconded to one of our clients as an in-house lawyer. Legal experience aside, a secondment is an opportunity to learn about the workings of a large commercial organisation and to act, on the front line, as an ambassador for the firm.

We expect you, as a trainee, to work hard and make a real contribution to our business because you see yourself playing an important part in our future. We will make sure your training is interesting, challenging and engaging and that you have the support and guidance you need to become the best lawyer you can be.
