The Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA's) consultation question from last year is fundamentally important to people running legal services functions within regulated firms.
If the FCA concludes that Heads of Legal functions should come within the Senior Managers Regime (SMR), they would become personally accountable under the SMR to the FCA. For some inhouse legal functions this could mean complex and expensive changes to how they operate to ensure that the head of the function does not get into hot water.
We anticipate that the FCA will shed further light on its thinking by September and so we are running an interactive Chatham House workshop to help you understand what the decision means for you and to decide what you need to do and when you need to do it by.
