Hugh Thomas is a dispute resolution lawyer specialising in marine and energy insurance and reinsurance.
Hugh has extensive experience of marine, energy (onshore and offshore) and heavy industrial insurance risks.
In the energy market, Hugh works on large losses in the offshore sector advising underwriters on the coverage implications of damage to offshore assets and assisting with the defence of liability claims in jurisdictions across the world. He also advises global insurance and reinsurance markets on large onshore industrial losses and subrogated recoveries.
On the marine side Hugh provides coverage advice to insurers/reinsurers across all lines of business including cargo, marine liability, and H&M (both yacht and commercial blue water). He also has experience of advising underwriters on the implications of vessel detentions in foreign jurisdictions (including ports in Africa and Asia), as well as marine casualty and shipping disputes.
Hugh has experience of both London and international arbitration as well as High Court litigation.
Hugh started his career with RPC in the firm's Singapore office, relocating to the London office in 2017. He has over nine years of market experience across both jurisdictions.
