James Davies

Senior Associate

James specialises in clinical negligence, dental negligence, healthcare regulatory matters and professional conduct proceedings. He has extensive experience in defending medical malpractice claims across a broad range of areas, from early pre-action stages through to trial.

James acts on behalf of private medical insurers, hospitals, clinics and individual clinicians. He joined RPC in December 2016, having previously acted for the NHS Litigation Authority (now NHS Resolution), NHS Trusts and medical defence organisations, including the Medical Defence Union and Dental Defence Union. James has also previously represented a healthcare regulatory body on fitness to practise claims and has a background in insurance fraud and criminal law.

Since joining RPC, James has developed an expertise in defending claims in the fields of cosmetic surgery, dentistry, orthopaedic surgery, spinal surgery, wrongful birth and sports-related brain injury. He has acted for a national cosmetic surgery company for many years, and is regularly instructed by NHS Scotland, so is familiar with cross-border and jurisdictional issues. More recently, he has been instructed to defend a claim brought by a former professional rugby player and has advised a private hospital on its Covid-19 protocols and procedures.

He has written articles and provided in-house training on a variety of topics including Covid-19 related claims, concussion injuries, wrongful birth, and consent.
