An expert in all aspects of investment funds, James Kaufmann is a dynamic Legal Director in the Corporate Team, who focuses his practice on regulatory, hedge funds, retail funds, and adopts a holistic approach to advising investment fund management businesses.James advises investment fund clients on every part of their business, including establishment of managers and funds, fund/product formation, corporate and regulatory matters, and business life cycle events.
He also has experience of a range of investment fund strategies and structures, including UCITS, open-ended onshore and offshore vehicles, closed-ended listed vehicles, structured products and managed accounts.
James spent seven years in-house, including five as General Counsel and Head of Compliance at a leading fund platform and two as chief operating officer of an alternative investment fund. This experience enables James to add real value when advising clients.
A key aspect of James' practice focuses on regulatory advice. James served as a Chief Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering Officer (CF10 & 11) for FCA regulated firms for seven years. As such, James has actual experience of dealing with regulators and regulatory issues as both a practitioner and as an approved person.
Since joining RPC, James' practice has expanded to include advising on Cryptocurrencies. James' hands-on and can-do approach combined with his unique background, in-house experience and regulatory knowledge means he is ideally suited to advising clients on the issues raised in this innovative and fast-moving field; including advising in relation to ICO (and pre-ICO fundraising), Crypto-exchanges and regulatory analysis.
Blockchain/Cryptocurrency – ongoing advice to international blockchain developers, including acting on corporate financing transactions, fundraising and ICO related ventures, group structuring and on the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies and ICOs.
