Richard Seymour
Associate
Richard is an Associate in RPC's Professional and Financial Risks team who specialises in claims against legal professionals and who provides coverage advice to insurers in similar matters.
Richard joined RPC Bristol's Professional and Financial Risks team in 2021 and acts on behalf of lawyers and their professional indemnity insurers.
Richard's primary practice consists of defending negligence claims brought against professional clients, including solicitors, and advising insurers on policy and coverage response. Richard's interest in the area arises from his prior experience at an international law firm where he worked as an in-house Risk and Compliance Officer. This allows him to offer practical and tailored advice to insured and insurer clients.
On top of his defence work, Richard also advises insurers on coverage and policy matters, and has a particular interest in solicitors' professional indemnity insurance.
Relevant work
- Successfully defended a negligence claim brought against a firm of solicitors in respect of complex underlying criminal matters that was dismissed in its entirety at trial. Subsequently recovered over 95% of the costs incurred
- Advising insurers in respect of a policy notification regarding insolvency proceedings, costs sanctions, fraud, and dishonesty.
