Samantha Thompson is an experienced media lawyer with expertise across media and communication law and regulation
Samantha has extensive and varied experience acting for national newspapers, social media platforms, broadcasters, journalists, charities and other organisations seeking to protect freedom of expression and information. She specialises in defamation, privacy and data protection claims, and also advises on media regulation.
Samantha has experience across all stages of litigation. She has acted for clients in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights. She is experienced in advising clients on interlocutory applications, settlement, costs claims and appeals, most recently the landmark Court of Appeal privacy decision ZXC v Bloomberg LP. Samantha has worked in both the London and Hong Kong offices, and has experience advising on international and jurisdictional issues.
Samantha also provides around-the-clock pre-publication advice for various print and broadcast media clients. She was seconded to Channel 4 in 2020/21, where she provided legal and regulatory advice on programmes from inception to broadcast.
