Firm wins prestigious award just five years after opening

Professional services firm RPC has won a top award after being handed the title of Rising Law Firm of the Year at the 2017 Asian Legal Business Awards.

The award comes just five years after RPC first opened in Hong Kong as part of an association with local firm Smyth & Co and the same year that the two firms amalgamated – after completing the required period of association – to trade as RPC.

The award recognises the growth of the business in Hong Kong, which started as an insurance focussed firm in 2012 and now provides clients with commercial litigation and dispute resolution, international arbitration, shipping and international trade, and corporate transactional and advisory services.

Commenting on the win, Hong Kong Senior Partner David Smyth said: "Over the last year we have focussed on building out our non-contentious capabilities to best support clients doing business in the region. This is complemented by our well established contentious practice which continues to exceed our expectations. We were also recognised for our arbitration, maritime and insurance practices demonstrating that we are among the top in the market."

The firm was also shortlisted for International Arbitration Law Firm of the Year, Maritime Law Firm of the Year, and Insurance Law Firm of the Year.

RPC's Hong Kong office has grown substantially over the past 12 months, including seeing the arrival of two new Partners- Corporate Finance specialist Janney Chong who joined from Sidley Austin in March 2017 and Private Equity Partner Jeremy Cunningham who moved from Mayer Brown to RPC in November 2016.
