M&A and private equity specialist Jeremy Cunningham joins RPC from Mayer Brown in Hong Kong.

City-headquartered professional services firm RPC has hired Jeremy Cunningham as a Partner in its growing Corporate team in Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Jeremy joins from international law firm Mayer Brown where he has been a partner since 2011.

Jeremy specialises in large-scale complex M&A and private equity work, acting for well-known UK-headquartered and Asia-based clients with a particular focus on the media, advertising and insurance industries.

During his career – in which he's been based in London, Vietnam and Hong Kong – Jeremy has acted on a number of high-profile transactions, including advising:

  • A major global record label on a share and business acquisition of the recorded music catalogue and roster of recording artists of one of the largest and most acclaimed collections of local pop and rock music from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
  • An international financial institution on its investment in the medical infrastructure and services sector in the People's Republic of China.
  • A multinational serviced residence owner-operator on a Series D investment through a consortium of investors in, and a joint venture with, a leading Chinese online apartment sharing platform.
  • An international lifestyle furniture group on its worldwide reorganisation across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Speaking of his hire, Head of Corporate at RPC Tim Anderson said: "We've been looking for some time for the right person to enhance our existing Corporate capability in Hong Kong and build on our transactional practice across Asia. Jeremy adds significant extra weight to what we can offer clients.

"Not only does his experience neatly complement our overall Corporate offering both in Asia and the UK, but personally and culturally he is a fantastic fit with the team. We're really looking forward to having him on board."

Jeremy Cunningham said: "RPC has a strong brand both in Asia and the UK and with established expertise which fits neatly with many of my existing clients and the sectors I operate in, so this is a natural move for me. Importantly, after I met my future RPC colleagues in Asia, as well as London, I also knew the cultural fit was right.

"Initially, my focus is very much on helping to grow RPC's Corporate practice in Hong Kong, as well as building stronger ties with our non-contentious teams in Singapore. Longer term, I'm also looking forward to forging a closer relationship between RPC's Asian and UK Corporate practices, not least as many of my existing clients are headquartered in London."

Jeremy's arrival follows RPC's launch in Singapore of joint law venture (JLV) RPC Premier Law on 1 May this year. The JLV doubled the firm's size in Singapore, significantly expanding its capability to handle major corporate, dispute resolution and insurance work across the Asia Pacific region.
