Jonathan Crompton, a Hong Kong-based Partner at international law firm, RPC, has been named by Asian Legal Business (ALB) as one of its Litigators of Asia 2023.

A seasoned commercial and financial disputes lawyer, Jonathan has expertise in cross-border disputes and investigations across Asia within the finance and technology industries. As a leading figure in crypto-related advisory, Jonathan leads the RPC ReSecure cyber incident response team in Asia and is a leading figure in crypto-related legal advisory work, including as a founding committee member of the Hong Kong chapter of CFAAR (the Crypto Fraud and Asset Recover Network). ALB recognised Jonathan for:

  • Representing the victim of Hong Kong's largest mobile phone and app fraud, orchestrated by criminals impersonating Chinese officials. Jonathan and his team aided the client in tracing and pursuing a claim in the Hong Kong High Court, including PRC defendants.

  • Advising Asia's premier business expansion and corporate services firm, in addressing cyberattacks across its global network, affecting hundreds of servers and numerous staff endpoints in multiple jurisdictions.

  • Successfully securing a judgment in March 2023 for a leading digital asset custody company in pursuing payments from a former customer for custodial and platform services. Efforts encompassed pre-litigation communications and navigating winding-up proceedings in the English Court, which were complicated by COVID-19 and related judiciary measures.

In addition to his client work, Jonathan is a dedicated pro bono advocate, having received awards for his work, and is a member of RPC's ESG Advisory Group. Additionally, he leads a fertility initiative within RPC and supports Justice Without Borders. Jonathan is actively involved in rugby governance in Hong Kong and serves on the Vis East Moot Foundation Advisory Council.
