Ivan is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution team.

Ivan Chang is a disputes resolution lawyer who has significant experience in commercial litigation, arbitration, regulatory investigation and data privacy.

He has acted for multinational corporations, local, international and Chinese banks and investment banks, Big Four accountants and other financial institutions in respect of their litigious and contentious regulatory issues. He also advises clients in respect of issues relating to competition, data privacy and cross-border data protection, transfers and restrictions.

In respect of regulatory investigations, he has helped clients resolve inquiries, investigations and disciplinary proceedings instituted by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and other Hong Kong and overseas regulatory bodies such as the Hong Kong Data Privacy Commissioner and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also advised regulators, and stock and digital asset exchanges.

 

Relevant work

  • Advising and acting for numerous local and international banks (including their retail, commercial and investment banking, EDM, and wealth management divisions) and listed companies in respect of investigations conducted by, and formal and informal inquiries from, various Hong Kong law enforcement agencies and regulators including the HKMA, SFC, The Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Privacy Commissioner, and the Equal Opportunities Commission

     

  • Advising and acting for clients in commercial disputes. Including helping the applicant in the landmark case of Sun Tian Gang v. Hong Kong & China Gas (Jilin) Ltd to set aside a 8-year-old arbitral award.

     

  • Advising banks, corporations and professional firms in respect of all aspects of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, including investigations conducted by the Hong Kong Data Privacy Commissioner.

  • Advising banks and corporations on competition law.
