Published on 03 November 2022

International law firm RPC has advised Award-winning London-based VFX studio Milk on its acquisition of independent, BAFTA Award-winning VFX studio Lola Post Production, as part of wider plans to expand in this rapidly growing sector.

In combination, the two studios will have more than 300 seats’ capacity and provide a significant creative platform offering a full range of innovative visual effects for the premium film and television markets, spanning genres from drama to factual.

Lola has enjoyed a stellar year, with credits for 2022 including Dangerous Liaisons (Starz/Lionsgate) and Dinosaurs: The Final Day with David Attenborough (BBC).

Milk has also enjoyed strong growth this year, moving into a new studio in London’s Clerkenwell and delivering a raft of feature and episodic projects including Sony’s The Woman King and upcoming feature The Swimmers (Netflix).

The visual effects company is currently in production on projects including the second series of Good Omens (Amazon/BBC) and eight-part NBC series Surviving Earth (NBC/Loud Minds).

Lola’s Oscar-winning founder and creative director Rob Harvey, who has been at the helm of the studio’s creative output since its formation in 2000, will continue as Creative Director and VFX Supervisor and will work closely alongside Milk’s board and senior leadership team.

RPC Corporate Partner Jeremy Cunningham, who led the legal team, said: “We are delighted to have advised Milk on their acquisition of Lola Post Production, as part of their wider growth strategy into this sector."

Jag Mundi, Milk Executive Chairman said: “The RPC team expertly navigated us through the intricacies of this acquisition, which will enable us to expand our scale and capabilities, both creatively and commercially. Bringing Rob and the Lola team’s award-winning expertise and reputation, especially in the factual market, into one group with a shared vision, positions us well to help our clients bring their projects to life.”

Cunningham was assisted by Senior Associate Marsha Williamson (Corporate), Associate Kate O'Malley (Corporate) and Partner Ben Roberts (Tax), as well as colleagues across the employment, real estate, CTO and IP & Technology teams.
