International law firm RPC has hired Peter Kwon as Partner to head up its newly formed 'Korea Desk'. He will be based in Hong Kong.

Peter joins RPC from Ashurst, where aside from being a highly regarded industry specialist, he co-headed the firm's Korean practice. In this capacity, he has extensive experience assisting Korean financial institutions, chaebols (large Korean industrial conglomerates) and investment funds in major cross-border disputes, as well in securities regulatory matters.

Having joined RPC on the 4th January 2022, Peter's established reputation in the Korean market will support the firm's focus on expanding its presence in Korea and help clients in guiding them through their opportunities and challenges through access to the firm's market-leading lawyers.

Antony Sassi, RPC Managing Partner Asia, said: "We are delighted that Peter will be joining us in Hong Kong. Peter has a fantastic reputation in the local Korean market and very strong relationships with the leading Korean law firms. Peter's addition will open up the Korean market for us and create new opportunities to work for Korean clients and Korean law firms through our leading referral practice across all our offices."

Adding to this, Managing Partner James Miller said: "I would like to welcome Peter to the RPC family. He is a talented and well-connected lawyer who will help us forge new relationships with Korean clients. Peter's arrival is a key strategic hire which will not only open up new exciting opportunities with the 12th largest economy in the world, but also put us on the front foot of developing our international presence and responding to evolving market opportunities."

Head of Commercial Jeremy Drew added: "Peter's appointment is part of our ongoing drive to expand our highly regarded commercial offering, especially in our chosen sectors and practice areas where we are known as market leading. His hire reflects our ambition to continue to add high-calibre lawyers with a collaborative mindset to build out our leading international non-contentious and contentious work."

Commenting on joining RPC, Peter Kwon said: "It's an exciting time to join RPC with the firm investing heavily in its growth and adding quality lawyers. I am thrilled to be part of the firm's journey to grow its international platform and help open up opportunities with Korean clients and working closely with like-minded law firms."

Peter's arrival brings the firm to 18 Partners across its Hong Kong and Singapore offices. Nine of these Partners joined the Partnership in the last 20 months – through a combination of strategic lateral hires and promotion of internal talent - as the firm continues its bold growth plans in supporting clients achieve their ambitions and guiding them through their opportunities and challenges.
