International law firm RPC announced today that intellectual property (IP) lawyer and patent specialist Dr Matthew Jones has joined the firm's award-winning IP and technology practice as a Partner in London.

Jones joins RPC from boutique patent firm EIP, where he has spent the last nine years specialising in patent matters in the life sciences, telecommunications and technology sectors. Before that, he spent a number of years in the patent litigation practices of well-known international firms, and also spent two years working for TEVA Pharmaceuticals Europe as in-house senior counsel.

Jones has 20 years' experience as an IP lawyer, with an expert knowledge in patent litigation. He also has a PhD in biochemistry, specialising in quantum enzymology and biophysics, giving him a keen understanding of the life sciences and technology sectors.

With experience in contentious and non-contentious IP matters, Jones has worked on multi-jurisdictional disputes as well as FRAND (Fair Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory licensing) litigation, trade mark and copyright issues, and related competition/antitrust disputes.

The move allows RPC to broaden its specialist services in patent litigation and further support the firm's growth within the technology and life sciences sectors.

RPC's market-leading IP and technology practice consecutively won TMT Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards in 2020 and 2021.

Commenting on Jones's arrival, RPC's Head of IP and Tech David Cran, said: "We are very excited by Matthew's arrival and the opportunity it presents to expand our offering to clients  as we continue to grow our market-leading IP and technology practice. He brings a deep industry knowledge that spans technology and life sciences, and will no doubt prove invaluable to how we can help our clients."

Adding to this, RPC Managing Partner James Miller said: "Matthew's arrival complements our reputation as a disputes powerhouse and go-to firm for IP and technology matters, as well as signalling our ambitions to continue growing in this area and support clients' commercial needs."

Commenting on his arrival at RPC, Matthew said: "Everyone at RPC has been incredibly supportive and I'm excited by the firm's ambitions to build out its IP and patent litigation practice. I am delighted to join RPC, which has a stellar reputation in IP and technology, and I'm really looking forward to working with them.

"The firm has a cohesive, diverse and extremely successful team, who are client-oriented and commercially driven.

"I'm also passionate about mentoring the next generation of IP lawyers and very much looking forward to helping to build out the business."

Jones's arrival means RPC now has 125 Partners across the firm in its UK, Hong Kong and Singapore offices.
