RPC elects five New Partners and names five Of Counsel

International law firm RPC has announced the promotion of five Partners and five Of Counsel, effective May 1, 2024.

These promotions underscore RPC's unwavering dedication to investing in its leading practices and talented lawyers, embodying the firm's commitment to delivering exceptional legal advice and client service. This round of promotions is strategically positioned across a spectrum of contentious and non-contentious practices, reflecting a commitment to client ambitions and commercial success.

The new Partners and their principal areas of practice are:

  • London-based Jonathan Charwat is an experienced regulatory and commercial lawyer specialising in the insurance and financial services sectors.
  • Cecilia Everett, in London, is a construction and coverage litigation specialist. She has acted for main contractors, contract administrators, engineers, architects, surveyors and LPA Receivers, and has pursued subrogated recoveries from sub-consultants and sub-contractors.
  • Rachel Ford (London), specialising in cyber and tech insurance, handles diverse cyber incidents and advises on the practical, regulatory and contractual considerations that arise from these, along with a range of litigation, including data subject claims and technology disputes, and matters concerning coverage and policy wordings.
  • Sitting in Bristol, Matthew Watson deals with claims against directors and officers (D&O) and provides coverage advice to insurers in relation to D&O and Management Liability risks.
  • Hong Kong-based Rebecca Wong specialises in insurance related disputes and advisory work, with a focus on the financial lines and construction space.

Those who have been promoted to Of Counsel are:

  • Rebecca Carrera sits in the London Property & Casualty Practice and is a dispute resolution lawyer who specialises in construction and property related losses, liability claims as well as policy coverage and other types of insurance related disputes.
  • Leonia Chesterfield is a competition lawyer specialising in collective proceedings in the UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal, with extensive experience in class actions, competition investigations, damages claims and consumer redress.
  • William Jones is a dispute resolution lawyer handling large, complex, international insurance claims and proceedings, and advises global insurers in respect of coverage issues arising across a range of cross-jurisdictional risks, including energy, marine, property, political risks and terrorism.
  • James McKay assists insurers in the defence of claims brought against construction professionals. He also advises on insurance coverage issues.
  • Kirtan Prasad is an experienced commercial and financial disputes lawyer, who specialises in international arbitration and multi-jurisdictional disputes.

In the past 12 months RPC has hired six Partners across its four offices, taking its international partnership to 141.
